If you already own a domain name, you want to use it with your website hosted with WebSelf, and you have decided to perform a domain transfer, which means "moving out your domain" from your current hosting provider to WebSelf, please review the information to ensure the process goes smoothly:
First of all, the only extensions hosted by WebSelf are: .com, .net, .org, .ca, .fr, and .be.
Important points to remember:
- Be patient: The domain transfer itself typically takes 5 to 7 days, depending on your previous hosting provider's policies.
- Check if there is a 60-day waiting period after a recent domain transfer or registration before initiating a new one.
- A domain name transfer alone does not transfer email addresses.
- After transferring your domain name, you must recreate your email addresses in your WebSelf account.
1. What you need before initiating the transfer process:
- Have an active subscription to a WebSelf Premium plan.
- Have the transfer code for your domain. Request it from your current hosting provider.
- Ensure your domain is unlocked with your current hosting provider. Request this from your current hosting provider.
Note: To avoid service interruptions during the transfer period (up to 7 days), it is not mandatory, but strongly recommended, to have connected the domain name to your website and configured the MX and DNS records in your WebSelf account before initiating the transfer process.

2. Prepare the migration of email addresses BEFORE initiating the transfer
- Inventory all email addresses and their associated services.
- Make sure you back up all your email accounts before starting the domain transfer process to avoid any data loss (talk to your current hosting provider).
- Note down your current email account credentials (email address, password, server information) as you may need them to set up accounts with the new hosting provider.
- Make sure you create a backup of your contacts.
IMPORTANT: WebSelf's email provider does not offer a migration tool to transfer emails, contacts, and other data. To do this, you will need to use external software.
3. Create the new email addresses
AFTER the domain transfer completion, create the email addresses in your WebSelf account using the exact same account names (e.g., contact@yourdomain.com) and passwords.

Note: Email addresses created on WebSelf servers can be accessed either through an external email software or via WebSelf Webmail, an online application that allows you to send and receive emails from any computer connected to the internet. While very convenient, Webmail is often limited in terms of features.

4. Configure and check the records and settings
- If you are using an external email software, ensure that your email's DNS and MX records and settings are correct for the service to function properly.
- Configure your email applications on your devices (computers, smartphones, etc.).
- Test to ensure everything is working as expected after the migration.

IMPORTANT: WebSelf provides technical support and ensures the proper functioning of WebSelf Webmail only. If you use an external messaging service for your email addresses and encounter a technical problem, you must contact that service's technical support directly.
